Nepal Balbalika trust was established in 2005 to help the children of conflict in Nepal. The civil war in Nepal has left a generation homeless and orphaned.

The goal of NBT is to create a self-sufficient eco shelter to look after a number of these children and give them a start in life that they would otherwise not get.

All money raised goes straight to the children’s future as admin and other costs are paid for by a few NBT members. People have raised money doing adventure fundraising with some moneyees raised helping pay for their exercise, but a minium amount for the shelter had to be raised to participate in these events.

Land has been secured in Dhulikhel, east of Kathmandu, next to a school allowing these children easy access to an education.

NBT has joined forces with Help Nepal, www.helpnepal.net, a Nepali volunteer organisation that is situated in a number of countries with a devoted ground team in Nepal that is essential to guarantee works is carried out to the highest possible level.

Money raised from NBT’s fundraising efforts including 2 world records for the longest performance- 44 hours and the worlds highest gig 5545m at Kalapattar in the Everest region have raised close to £30 000 pounds to start the development of the shelter which will start building in October and have children of the conflict residents in January 08. Our goal is to have 56 children in our care, although this will be done over time so we don’t spread ourselves to thinly and these children get the most from the resources they possibly can. The children who will be first in care will be able to help later residents cope with their new surroundings.

CAT {centre of alternative technology} have been kind enough to offer their advice on which is the best eco friendly way of building the shelter from power to compost toilets to usage of grey and white water.

Surrounding land will be used for means of self-sufficiency in means of horticulture.

NBT is volunteered based and is reliant on very few individuals and is always looking for help and donations. If you would like to do either please get in touch.
